Sterling Engines builds high-performance marine and automotive engines in Milford, Michigan. This policy covers the website at sterlingengines.com. Our online shop at shop.sterlingengines.com runs on a separate platform with its own privacy terms, and your account there is governed by those terms rather than this page.
We run two forms. Our contact form asks for your first and last name, email address, phone number, street address, city, state, postal code and country, the engine type, make and model you are asking about, the service you want, and whatever you write in the message field. Our rebuild checklist form asks for your name, email address and build type.
Both forms are processed by Netlify, who host this website. Submissions are delivered to us and stored in our Netlify account.
The contact form also has a checkbox asking whether you consent to receive marketing and promotional messages from us, including by text. That box is optional and unchecked by default. You can reply STOP to any message to opt out, or email us and we will remove you.
When you use the site, our analytics and advertising tools record things like the pages you view, how you arrived, approximate location derived from your IP address, your device and browser, and how you interact with pages. One of these tools, Microsoft Clarity, also records session replays and heatmaps, which capture mouse movement, scrolling and clicks on the pages you visit.
We use cookies through Google Tag Manager, which loads when you open a page on this site. The table below lists what they are and who sets them. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics specifically with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. Blocking cookies may affect how parts of the site work.
A few third parties are contacted to render the site itself, before any cookie choice, because the pages cannot display without them: Google Fonts serves our typefaces, Cloudflare and the Tailwind CDN serve stylesheets, and Vimeo serves the background videos on some pages. These providers receive your IP address as part of delivering those files, and Vimeo may set its own cookies when a video loads. We do not control those cookies.
To answer your enquiry and quote your build. To send the guide you asked for. To send marketing messages if, and only if, you asked for them. To understand which pages people actually read so we can improve the site. To measure whether our advertising works. And to keep the site secure and working.
We do not use any of it to make automated decisions about you, and we do not use it to build profiles beyond the advertising measurement described above.
Our team in Milford. Netlify, who host the site and process form submissions. Google, Microsoft and Meta, through the analytics and advertising tools listed above. We may also disclose information where we are legally required to.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Note that under some state privacy laws, the advertising cookies described above can count as "sharing" personal information for targeted advertising. If you want that to stop, email us using the address below, or block these cookies in your browser.
Cookies. Block or delete them in your browser settings, or use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on linked above. You can also email us and ask us to stop processing your information for advertising.
Marketing messages. Reply STOP to any text, or email us and we will take you off the list.
Your data. Email info@sterlingengines.com and tell us what you want. We will confirm who you are before acting, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
Depending on where you live, you may have specific rights to access, correct, delete or port your information, to opt out of targeted advertising, and to appeal a refusal. California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and several other states grant versions of these rights. If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, you may also have the right to object to processing and to complain to your local supervisory authority.
We keep enquiries and customer records for as long as we need them to do the work, support the engine afterwards, and meet our tax and legal obligations. Analytics data is retained according to the settings in the tools above.
The site is served over HTTPS and form submissions are transmitted encrypted. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we limit who can reach your information and why.
This site is aimed at engine customers and is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be flagged on the site.
